Florence Celebrates Memorial Day May 30 | FLORENCE-Florence Mayor Andy Betterton and Lauderdale County Commission Chairman Danny Pettus announce the annual Veterans Day program to begin at 11:00 AM on November 11. The Ceremony will be held at the Florence – Lauderdale County Veterans Memorial Park at 301 Veterans Park  Drive, north of Wilson Dam. The number of attendees is not restricted; however; seating is limited. Standing room is available. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs. Seating will be at the front side of the Veterans Memorial.

The purpose of the Veterans Day Ceremony is to honor all American Veterans for their service in defense of our freedom. The theme for this year’s Veterans Day program is, “Honor Our Veterans.”

The Veterans Day Ceremony, lasting for approximately one hour, will include numerous events honoring the Florence-Lauderdale veterans for their service in defending our freedom. It will also include honors to our nation (e.g. Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, music “God Bless America” and the laying of a wreath and playing of Taps to honor our fallen heroes.

Our country owes those who served, and those that are currently serving, a debt of gratitude. Our appreciation should be expressed often, especially on Veterans Day. Numerous ways that veterans may be honored will be discussed at the ceremony. Attending the Veterans Day Ceremony is an excellent way to honor our veterans.

Veterans in attendance will be recognized collectively and thanked for their service. They are encouraged to show their pride in having served in our country’s armed forces by wearing their service caps, pins, patches, etc. The specifically designed stick-on lapel crest, “I am a Veteran” will be given to veterans in attendance for ease of identification.  An informative twelve-page keepsake Veterans Day booklet will be distributed to the first 150 veterans attending the ceremony.

The Veterans Day program can also be viewed by watching it LIVE on the City of Florence Facebook Page, Big River Broadcasting Radio Stations, and Singing River Media Radio. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.
