FLORENCE-Florence Mayor Andy Betterton and Lauderdale County Commission Chairman Danny Pettus
announce the annual Veterans Day program will be held November 11 at 11 AM. The ceremony will be held at the Florence-Lauderdale County Veterans Memorial Park at 301 Veterans Park Drive, north of Wilson Dam.
The number of attendees is not restricted; however, seating is limited. Standing room is
available. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs. Social distancing and facemasks are
required.
The Veterans Day program is ceremonial with numerous events that honor our veterans for
their service in defending our freedom. The program also includes honors to our nation (e.g.
Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, Song “God Bless America”) and the laying of a wreath
and the playing of Taps to honor our fallen heroes. There will also be a description of “The
Journey to becoming a Veteran”.
Veterans are encouraged to show their pride in having served in our country’s armed forces
by wearing their service caps, pins, patches, etc. The local theme for this year’s Veterans Day
ceremony is “Veterans Day is a day for honoring the veterans that served in the United
States Armed Forces.”
Our country owes those who have served, and those who are currently serving, a debt of
gratitude. Our appreciation should be expressed often, especially on Veterans Day. Also,
when the opportunity arises, veterans should be greeted with, “Thank you for your service.”
The Veterans Day program can also be viewed by watching it LIVE on the City of Florence
Facebook Page, Big River Broadcasting Radio Stations, and Singing River Media Radio.
