Florence Police Officers Overcome By Smoke During Rescue In Early Morning Fire

WLLMIvjI_400x400FLORENCE-Just before 1 am this morning, Tuesday, October 13 20151013_2778officers with the Florence Police Department responded to 675 Sannoner Ave to a welfare check. As officers arrived they were met by a male who stated that his friend had ran into the smoke filled house in an attempt to rescue his pets.

Officers Michael South, Tyler Melton, Tyler Oliver, and Michael Price then entered the home in an attempt to locate the male. Shortly after entering the burning home all officers were forced back outside due to heavy smoke.

The officers then set in motion a plan to rotate entry into the home in an attempt to locate and save the man inside. Officers entered the home and located the man

unconscious in a hallway. Working together, the officers pulled the man from the burning home.

Sergeant Randal Holt was waiting outside and began first aid until Florence Fire and EMS arrived. Officers South, Price, unnamed (1)Melton, and Oliver received medical treatment at the scene. The male victim was transported from the scene and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital, his condition is unknown at this time.

In addition, four dogs were rescued from the home and released to PAWS for care.
