Florence Police Arrest Suspect Charging Him With Arson 1st Degree

FLORENCE-On October 2, 2023, at approximately 8:30 P.M., Florence Police responded to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Darby Drive in Florence to a report of a domestic violence incident. Malcolm Allen had assaulted his mother with a
hammer.

When officers arrived, the victim was able to escape. EMS transported her to North Alabama Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Allen barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to speak to officers. While attempting to speak with Allen, Officers heard a smoke detector and noticed smoke and flames inside the apartment. Officers were able to evacuate residents of the surrounding apartments.

Officers were able to pull Allen to safety through a window. Firefighters with the Florence Fire Department quickly
extinguished the fire, limiting most of the damage to Allen’s apartment. Allen was arrested for Arson in the First Degree and Domestic Violence in the Second Degree.

Allen is currently held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center with no bail.

Allen is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
