FLORENCE-On February 16, 2025, Florence Police Department Officers responded to 116 S. Royal Avenue, Florence, AL to assist EMS on a medical call with a disorderly male.
Officers made contact with

Rodger Buttrum
, 58, and he tensed up while screaming, creating a disturbance to the public. Buttrum balled his fists as officers attempted to take him into custody. Once he was taken into custody he was transported to the North Alabama Medical Center for treatment and released to the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
One officer suffered an injury to their leg.
Buttrum was initially charged with Assault 2nd, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. The Assault 2nd charge has been dismissed and has been downgraded to Assault 3rd.
Rodger Buttrum is innocent until proven guilty.
