Thomas Hughes
FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a statement regarding the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday, June 28. The suspect has been charged with Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12 and Sodomy 1st:
“Thomas Hughes, 48, of Florence was arrested last night and charged with Sexual Abuse of a Child Under the Age of 12 and Sodomy 1st. The charges come after Florence Police received a call of Hughes being seen molesting a female child. Detectives with the Florence Police Department responded and began investigating the crime. Our investigation found that Hughes knew, but was not related to the child. Following interviews with the victim and witnesses, Hughes was arrested and charged. He is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bond.
As you can imagine, this case has been terribly trying on our officers and detectives.”
