FLORENCE-A Florence Police Officer received injuries this past weekend while working undercover as part of the W.C. Handy Festival.
Here is a statement from the Florence Police Department describing events leading up to the arrest of three suspects:
” Two Florence Police Officers are recovering today following a fight which left one officer with leg injuries. Reports indicate that two Florence officers were working undercover this weekend as part of the WC Handy Festival.
The officers observed Mr.Mason G. Kamp, 20, of Florence, urinating in public view and identified themselves as police officers. Camp refused to acknowledge them and ran into an apartment. The officers followed and attempted to arrest Camp for Public Lewdness. Ms. Amanda K. Thompson, 25, of Florence, is accused of attempting to prevent officers from arresting Kamp.
A fight ensued inside the apartment resulting in one officer being held in a choke hold cutting off the oxygen to his brain. The second officer then attempted to assist the officer who was becoming unconscious when Mr. Cody R. Sloas, 22, of Florence, is accused of beginning to hit the officers. Ms. Thompson then began joining in the altercation.
Following a lengthy fight both Sloas and Kamp were secured in handcuffs. Officers then approached Ms. Thompson who had her hands behind her back. As officers approached her she was found to be holding a firearm that she had retrieved from another room during the altercation.”
“Kamp was arrested for Assault 2nd, Public Lewdness, and Resisting Arrest. He was released on $7,000.00 bond.
Sloas was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd and Resisting Arrest. He was released on $6,000.00 bond.
Thompson was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest and was released on $1,000.00 bond.”
