FLORENCE-A Florence Police Officer was bitten by a suspect on Saturday, July 26th.
Here is a statement concerning the Officer being accosted from the Florence Police Department:
“A Florence Police Officer is recovering after a Saturday incident on East Mobile Street. The officer, who’s name is not being released, was on patrol when he observed a white male, later identified as Billy G. Aston, 54, riding a bicycle along East Mobile Street. Aston then crashed his bicycle in front of the officer and the officer stopped to check his welfare. During the encounter Aston is accused of attempting to eat drugs. The officer, while trying to prevent Aston from ingesting the drugs, suffered bites to his fingers. He was treated at a local hospital and released. Aston was charged at the scene with Assault 2nd, Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, and Public Intoxication. He is currently in jail at the LCDC in lieu of bond totaling $8,500.00”
