FLORENCE-The 2021 Florence-Lauderdale County Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 31 in the Veterans Memorial Park at 301 Veterans Drive, north of Wilson Dam. The number of attendees is not restricted; however, seating is limited. Standing room is available. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs.
The purpose of the Memorial Day Ceremony is to honor all American Fallen Heroes for the price they paid in defending our freedom. The local theme for this year’s ceremony is “Freedom is Not Free, Some Paid All.”
America owes its Fallen Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom a debt of gratitude. Attending the ceremony is a way of showing that gratitude. Family members of Fallen Heroes are especially encouraged to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony in remembrance of their love ones. Veterans are encouraged to attend in honor of their fellow service members. Veterans in attendance will be recognized collectively and thanked for their service.
The Memorial Day Ceremony, lasting for approximately an hour, will include several events honoring our Fallen Heroes for the price they paid in defending our freedom. These events will include the laying of wreaths, playing of Taps, special remembrances of our Fallen Heroes and the singing of “All Gave Some, Some Gave All.” The program will also include honors to our nation, including Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the National Anthem, and the singing of “God Bless America.”
There will be special tributes to the Fallen Heroes of Florence-Lauderdale County. These 225 heroes are recognized, by name and war, on five memorial markers in the Fallen Heroes Memorial at the rear of the Veterans Memorial. This Memorial stands as a symbol of the patriotism of the Fallen Heroes of Lauderdale County. It also stands as a commitment by the citizens of Florence-Lauderdale County that their Fallen Heroes will not be forgotten. After the ceremony, the Fallen Heroes Memorial will be open for relatives of Fallen Heroes, friends and others to visit.
A special booklet, with pictures of the memorial markers, will be given to attendees at the ceremony. Also, a colorful and informative Program Brochure will be distributed.
