Florence McCarter – Obituary

FlorenceFlorence McCarter, 76, of Middleton, passed away Monday morning, October 21, 2013 at her home.

The wife of Lester Gene McCarter, who survives, she worked at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley, MS for 10 years as a nurse’s aide. She then worked at Bolivar General Hospital for around 5 years prior to retirement.

She was born January 7, 1937 to Elbert Clarence Ledford and Opal Sparks Ledford, both of whom preceded her in death, and lived all of her life in Hardeman County. She loved blue grass music, quilting and cooking. Her family states that she loved her family and dearly enjoyed life, caring for people as a nurse, and never met a stranger. Mrs. McCarter had been a member of Reaves United Methodist Church since 1963, being baptized in Parnell Grantham Lake on September 26, 1963 by Harrell R. Graves.

In addition to her husband, whom she married on December 1, 2000, survivors include a daughter and her husband, Frieda Morris (Tony) of Middleton; a son, Barry Lynn Kirk of Hardin County, TN; three sisters, Betty Kirk, Edna Vickers and Dora Howell, all of Middleton; a step daughter and her husband, Donna Henson (Don) of Middleton; a step son, Mickey Shane McCarter of Middleton; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
