Florence Latham DeBoer Wigon – Obituary

Mrs. Florence Latham DeBoer Wigon, age 87, of Florence, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013.

 

Mrs. Wigon was born in Pleasanton, KS to Mr. and Mrs. John Walter Latham (Orpha Belle Hamilton). She graduated from Pleasanton High School and Baker University (Baldwin City, KS).

She married the Rev. George Herman DeBoer on July 13, 1948 and was his wife until his death on January 13, 1979. Together they lived in Marion and Wichita, Kansas and in Iowa City and Conesville, Iowa and for many years in Florence.She was married to Leonard Wigon on June 4, 1981 until his death on August 22, 2013. Her parents and four siblings also preceded her in death, as well as her son, George Hamilton DeBoer.

 

She is survived by daughters Debbie Feagin and husband Donald, and Nita Hestevold and husband Scott; grandchildren Kelley, Geoff, and Loren Feagin, Kristen Pocrnich and husband John, and Erik and Kara Hestevold; a great-granddaughter Zoey Pocrnich.

 

Mrs. Wigon was a devoted wife, loving mother, interested grandmother, and a faithful and compassionate human being and friend. She will be missed by many.

 

Florence was a lifelong Presbyterian, an ordained Elder (First Presbyterian, Florence) and current member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church.

 

A service of celebration and memory will be held at Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church, Waterloo, on Friday, December 27, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Taylor Todd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
