FLORENCE-The Florence Arts and Museums Speaker Series is a monthly program meant to inspire conversations about the history and culture of north Alabama, with a focus on how the past shapes the present. This month, Jordan Collier will deliver his presentation, The Civil War in the Shoals and Northwest Alabama, at 2pm on Sunday, October 31st, at the Florence Indian Mound Museum.

The presentation will explore the events of the war, from the secession crisis of 1860 to the beginnings of reconstruction in 1865, as they relate to the Shoals and the people living here at the time, using 19th century sources and eyewitnesses.

Jordan Collier is a native of the Shoals, a 2015 graduate of the University of Alabama, and currently assistant local history and genealogy librarian at the Florence Lauderdale Public Library.

This program is sponsored by the City of Florence Department of Arts and Museums and the Kennedy-Douglass Art Center Volunteers.
