Funeral Services for Mr. Fletcher Baird, age 88 of Goodwater, will be on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Rock Springs Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. with Bro. Jimmy Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Baird passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his home. A lifelong resident of Clay County, he worked as a logger for a saw mill right out of high school. He then worked for Robertson Foundry and eventually Russell Manufacturing as a knitter, fixer, supervisor and truck driver for 37 years. Outside of work, he enjoyed planting fruits and vegetables in his garden, and loved fishing, farming, and sitting on his front porch by the heater.

Mr. Baird is survived by one daughter, Fran Jennings; two sons: Paul Baird and Steve Baird, all of Goodwater; three grandchildren: Bud McClure (Ashley) of Goodwater, Jeremiah Baird of Alexander City, and Kristina Crow (Wayne) of Tuscaloosa; four great-grandchildren: Chandler McClure, Jayda McClure, Aubrianna Crow and Caroline Crow; plus several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Nellus Baird and Nixie Lacey Baird; his wife, Jackye Baird; one sister, Alene Champion; and two brothers: Hardin and Hyram Baird.

Active Pallbearers will be Bud McClure, John Hodge, Wayne Crow, Chandler McClure, Stetson Handshy, and Dakota Hauck.

His visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. He will lie in state for one hour on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Rock Springs Baptist Church from 12:00 PM until service time at 1:00 PM
