FJ Estes, 80, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, August 16, 2024. He was born to Frank and Jodie Estes of the Curry Community where he lived his whole life, except for the few years that he lived in Louisiana where he met and married the love of his life, Alice Humphrey Estes who passed away in 2003.
He was a huge sports fan and loved Alabama football. He was known as an easy going man with a good sense of humor and a giving heart who loved the Lord and his family.
He was a 1962 graduate of Curry High School and had just attended their class reunion on June 1st. He was a retired coal miner.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with services at 6:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. There will be no graveside services and burial will be at a later time at Hermon Baptist Cemetery. Jackie Key will officiate.
Mr. Estes was preceded in death by his Parents-Frank and Jodie Key Estes; his Beloved wife-Alice Humphrey Estes; Brother-Bill Estes; Sister-Edna Estes.
He is survived by his loving and devoted Daughters-Willa (Larry) Burton, Melissa (Billy) Westbrook and April (Tony) Hamilton all of Jasper; Sisters-Jean (John) Chism of Jasper and Jimmy Wilburn of Tennessee; Grandchildren-Brad (Jamie) Burton, Erica (Keith) Calvert, Camron Shubert, Jarred (Rachel) Shubert, Madison Westbrook (Jeremiah) Headley, Marianne Westbrook (Chad) Hall, Ace (Hannah) Hamilton, Mackenzie Hamilton, Brock Hamilton and Annamarie Hamilton and 7 Great Grandchildren.
He is also survived by a devoted cousin, Jackie Key who was more like a brother. They looked forward to their coffee together every morning.
As well as a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Trouble, a bright light in his life and faithful companion.
