THE SHOALS-Freedom will ring throughout northwest Alabama in celebration of Independence Day.
The largest Independence Day festival in the Shoals, the Spirit of Freedom Celebration at McFarland Park in Florence, is Thursday, July 4. Music will begin at 4 p.m., with headliner Déjà vu taking the stage at 6:45 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m.
Other performers at the McFarland Park festival include Jeff Hornbuckle, Anna Kate Warner, Lucero Adame, Natalie Robertson and Lori Simmons and Jim Stanphill.
One of the best places to view the fireworks show will be The Old Railroad Bridge in Sheffield. Brendan Young and Cypress Run will be performing at the bridge before the fireworks show. Old Railroad Bridge souvenirs, face painting and concessions will be available. The activities at the bridge begin at 5 p.m. Admission is $2 per person or $7 for families. Profits from the event will go towards upkeep of the bridge.
Old Railroad Bridge Co. event coordinator, Jackie Reames, said the historic bridge provides one the best seats in the house for viewing the fireworks, which are launched from a barge on Pickwick Lake. “It is a fantastic place to watch the fireworks.” The bridge is located at 2100 Ashe Blvd., Sheffield.
Jam on Sloss Lake in Russellville on Thursday, July 4, will feature music and other activities throughout the day, beginning at 8 a.m., culminating with a concert by Shenandoah at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Musicians performing at the Russellville event include Buford Parker at 8 a.m., Jacob Green at 9 a.m., Joseph Baldwin at 10 a.m., Travis Wammack at 11 a.m., South Bound at noon, Purpose at 4 p.m., KGB at 4:50 p.m., Rewind at 5:50 p.m., and 3-Wheel Drive at 6:50 p.m. Sloss Lake Park is located at 12000 Alabama 24.
Colbert Heights First Baptist Church, 600 Woodmont Dr., Tuscumbia, will celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday, July 3 with Thunder on The Mountain. The celebration includes a fireworks show, silent auction and free barbecue. Serving begins at 7 p.m. The fireworks show begins at dark.
An old-fashioned Independence Day celebration, feature free entrance, music and family activities begins at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 6 at The Mixer, 215 N. Nashville Ave., Sheffield.
The annual Independence Day Celebration in downtown Cherokee is Saturday, July 6. Music by Travis Wammack begins at 7 p.m. with a fireworks show getting underway at 9:30 p.m. Concessions, inflatables and other activities will be available.
An Independence Day Celebration in Waterloo begins at 6 p.m., Friday July 5, at the north boat ramp on Lauderdale 14. The celebration features music by Big Brother and food vendors. A fireworks show will begin around 9 p.m.
Also on Saturday, July 6, just, Grand Harbor Condominiums, 325 County Road 380, Iuka, MS., will host the 18th annual Sizzle on The River Fireworks Extravaganza at 9 p.m.
