Farrell Herbert Harper, age 90, passed away after a short illness at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on July 21, 2023.
Farrell was an active member of Big Springs United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class E-7 helicopter crew chief. He was a member and officer in numerous civic organizations, primarily the Al Chymia Shrine and the American Legion. He enjoyed cooking for large charity functions and for his family. He always loved camping at the Tennessee River at Fisher’s Landing, eating breakfast with his buddies at Jack’s, and reminiscing with his Bemis friends about the good old days. The joy of his life was his family, especially his great granddaughter, Everly.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Margaret Harper; a daughter, Anna Dora Wright (Wayne); a brother, Travis Lee Harper (Mayra); grandchildren, Eli Garrett Wright (Brontè) and Sarah Elizabeth Salter (Samuel); and great grandchild, Everly Kate Wright; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Dora Harper; son, Jimmy Howard Jones II; his sister, Betty Carol Douglas; and infant brothers, Eugene and O’Neal Harper.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Monday, July 24, 2023 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Big Springs Cemetery at Pinson.
