Ezma Julene (Gray) Smith, know by everyone as “Judy”, was born on May 16, 1938 in Flintville, Tennessee and passed away on September 2, 2020 in Winchester, Tennessee after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years William (Bill) Smith. She is also predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Buford Carl Gray; brother, Bobby Gray; and sister, Wilma Dean (Quimby) Moore. She is survived by her brother, Gary (Rhonda) Gray; two sons, Scott (Andrea) Smith, and Jeff (Lindsey) Smith; grand children Ethan Smith, Anna-Marie Smith, Anderson Smith and Lydia Smith; sister-in-law, Catherine Gray, and Sara (Dean) Northcutt; and her dearest friend, Linda Gray.
Judy was a 1956 graduate of Franklin County High School where she met the love of her life Bill. They were married for 63 years. While raising her two boys, Judy worked in several different careers. She and Bill owned and operated several restaurants including the Campus Grill and Rebel Drive-In. She also worked as a nurse for years at Winchester Hospital and in area nursing homes. However, one of her favorite jobs was working at Kilpatrick Shoes in downtown Winchester in the late 1970’s. There she got to visit with virtually everyone in town. She loved meeting the kids that shopped there and keeping up with them as they grew. “Miss Judy” was always like a second mom to her boy’s friends and they always felt welcome at her house day or night.
She loved her Husband, her family and especially her grandchildren. She was a good friend to so many people. She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Elk River Health and Nursing Center who were such a blessing treated her like family in her last days. The family can’t thank them enough for their kindness and compassion.
Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Graveside Services will follow at 2:30 pm at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
