Evia Merle Kennedy was born May 22, 1928 in Brownfield, MS the daughter of the late James Henry and Bertha Meeks Baker.
She was united in marriage to Pete E. Kennedy, Sr. in 1945. Mr. Kennedy preceded her in death on July 21, 1969, following 24 years of marriage.
Mrs. Kennedy formerly served as McNairy County Court Clerk. She completed her husband’s term of office after his unexpected death in July of 1969, and was elected to another term before retiring from office. She lived with her family in Ramer, TN for many years before moving to Corinth to live with her sister. Mrs. Kennedy enjoyed crocheting, cooking for her family, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cypress Tank church of Christ.
Mrs. Kennedy departed this life on December 17, 2014 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 86 Years, 6 Months, 25 Days. She is survived by a son, Bill Kennedy and wife Judy of Corinth, MS; six grandchildren: Stan Kennedy, Nina Kennedy, Jason Kennedy and wife Stacy, Tammy Robertson and husband Kerry, Brandon Kennedy and wife Melanie, and Jennifer Jones and husband Michael; eleven great-grandchildren: Kaylie Jones, Emilie Jones, Mollie Jones, Jade Kennedy, Landon Kennedy, Shelby Kennedy, Shayne Fowler, Christa Kennedy, Chelsie Denevan, Katie Latch, and Josh Robertson; a sister, Linda Sappington of Corinth, MS; two brothers, J. B. Baker of Arkabutla, GA and Gene Baker of Corinth, MS; and many more extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by two sons, Pete E. Kennedy, Jr. and Wayne Kennedy; four sisters: Mildred Teague, Annie Dickerson, Jewel Holliday, and Docia Freeman; and two brothers, Roy Baker and Jimmy Baker.
