Evelyn O’Donnell, 92, of Huntsville passed away on February 14, 2020. Mrs. O’Donnell was preceded in death in 2019 by her husband of 76 years, Marvin O’Donnell. She will be missed by the family whom she loved deeply, including children, Sandra Hayes (Larry) and Stan O’Donnell (Martha); grandchildren, Melissa Engelkemier (Darren), Amy Ruff (Brian), Daniel O’Donnell (Laura) and Katie Jett (Chris); and nine great-grandchildren, with a 10th due in July.
Mrs. O’Donnell was born in 1927 and grew up in St. Clair County, Alabama, and was a resident of Huntsville since the early 1950s. Material hardships in her early years during the depth of the Great Depression were balanced by a strong community of faith, family and friends, which were priorities she carried throughout her life. She was actively involved in Mayfair Church of Christ for many years and found a number of ways to show love and support for those around her, often in the form of encouraging words, a chicken casserole or her famous strawberry cake.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery for family and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mayfair Church of Christ or Hospice of North Alabama.
