Evelyn Bryant, a beloved member of the Horton community, passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 79, at Marshall Medical Center South. She was born at home in the Mt. Hebron Community on February 19, 1944, to her late parents Elmer and Ella Mae Murphy.
Evelyn was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she found solace and community throughout her life. She had a heart filled with compassion and dedicated herself to caring for and nurturing numerous family members, embodying the spirit of love and selflessness.
Evelyn’s memory will be cherished by her children, Cathi Upton, Sherry Taylor, and George McGuire, who held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren, Kristen (Corey) Lewis, Whitney (Bret) Lackey, Cassi (Doug) Ezell, Daniel (Ivy) McGuire, and Drew Moore. Her great-grandchildren, Maddie Lackey, Baylor Lackey, Kolt McGuire, Myles Miller, Logan Lewis, and Ella Grace McGuire, will carry her warmth and kindness in their hearts. Evelyn is survived by her brother, Ken “Kermit” Murphy, and a host of nieces and nephews who were fortunate to have her as part of their lives.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Larry Bryant, as well as eight siblings. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
A funeral service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 am, with Reverend George Ray Garner and Reverend Matthew Smith officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Evelyn will be laid to rest at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, surrounded by the beauty of the community she called home. Serving as pallbearers will be Drew Moore, Daniel McGuire, Corey Lewis, Brett Lackey, Doug Ezell, and Mike Baker.
Evelyn’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family will forever be remembered. She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. May she find eternal peace in the loving embrace of the heavens.
