Evan Scott Hendricks, 96, died Friday in Huntsville. He was born in Kingsport, TN to Rev. Walter Scott Hendricks and Naomi May Early. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary S. Hendricks; sons, William S. Hendricks (Martha) and Robert W. Hendricks (Laurie); daughter, Betty H. Altherr Howard (Rick); stepchildren, Amy West, Suzanne Pratt and Fred G. Sanders III; seven step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Mary “Kitty” Webb Hendricks.
Evan served in Europe with the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war he attended the University of Tennessee and received a BSME. He met and married Mary “Kitty” Webb and they were blessed with three children. After Kitty’s death, Evan married Mary Sanders. A longtime resident of Monte Sano Mountain, he was a NASA engineer, working on the Saturn 5 boosters that helped to put men on the moon.
Evan enjoyed shooting sports, was a talented woodworker, and an avid golfer. He was a member of Monte Sano Methodist Church.
Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at Monte Sano Methodist Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m.
