A Celebration of Life for Eunice Marie Tapscott, 80, of Decatur will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh M.B. Church with Pastor Edward Owens officiating and inhumation in Calvary Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Eunice was born on November 24, 1934 in Centerville, Texas, to Harry Smith and Alice Roberson-Smith. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at her residence.
She confessed a hope in Christ at the age of eight in Texas. She received her formal education from the Texas School System, later attending Business College. She was married to the late James Hollis “Buddy” Tapscott and to this union three children were born: Sherry, Felicia and Stanley.
After moving to Alabama she united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she worked in the following capacities: Secretary of the Mother’s Board, Choir No. 1, First Vice President of Choir No. 2, Youth Coordinator of the Sunbeam Choir, Jr. Missionary Society Advisor, and Founder of the Christian Fellowship Auxiliary.
She was a retired employee of Sexton Can Company where she was an inspector. After retirement, she became self-employed as owner and operator of Tapscott Childcare. She was an excellent homemaker and cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James A. Smith, Harry Smith Jr. and Jimmy R. Smith; a sister, Pearlie Price; two grandsons, Simeon Gray and Timothy Gray; one great grandchild, Aniya Franklin.
Mother Tapscott leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Sherry (Samuel) Gray and Felicia Tapscott of Decatur; one son, Stanley Tapscott of Huntsville; two brothers, Mack E. Smith of Centerville, TX, and Otis T. Smith of Trenton, TX; one sister, Fannie P. Smith of Hayward, CA; two goddaughters, Teresa Bates-Hambright and Latasha Wade of Decatur; four grandchildren, Rialto Jefferson, Samuel Gray Jr., Jalecia and Jevon Jackson; one great- grandchild, Montreal Franklin-Jefferson; special sister-in-law, Gradie Stewart of Decatur; a special devoted niece, the Rev. Carol Cain-Franklin; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
