Eugenia “Jean” Burks Martin, age 92 of Decherd, passed from this life on November 5, 2018 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Jesse L. and Willie Christine Shelly Burks. Jean graduated from Decherd School. She later attended college and then became the secretary at Decherd Elementary School. She was often referred to as the “face of Decherd School”. She was a faithful member for nearly 50 years of the Decherd First Baptist Church. She was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. She not only enjoyed the game, but could name each player. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Martin; daughter, Debbie Martin, sister; Grace Bradford. She leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her passing her son, James “Jimmy” and his wife Kathy Fulmer Martin, grandsons; Jason and Jared Martin, great grandchildren; Alena and Andrew Martin, brother; Shelly Burks, a host of friends and family. The family will receive friends on Saturday November 10, 2018 from 10-11:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11:30, at Mt. Garner Cemetery.
