Mrs. Ethel Marjorie Hutchinson died on May 10, 2015, in Decatur at the age of 91. Mrs. Hutchinson is survived by her three children, James T. Hutchinson Jr., Susan Patricia Riddle and Matthew Alan Hutchinson; 12 grand- children; 18 great- grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first love, her husband of 61 years, James; her parents, John and Ethel Hand; her sisters, Grace Yaryan, Flora Hutchinson and Eloise Day; her brothers, Roy, Homer, Ira and John Hand; and her granddaughters, Kelly Hutchinson and Tami Estep.
Mrs. Hutchinson was born October 19, 1923, in Hueytown to John and Ethel Hand. She graduated from Hueytown High School in 1941. She married James T. Hutchinson, October 23, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida. When they began their life together Mr. Hutchinson was in the Navy at the time and served in the Navy for 20 years including World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Hutchinson also served in Vietnam as a civil servant. During World War II, Mrs. Hutchinson lived in Bessemer. Following the war, they lived and raised their three children in Jacksonville, Florida and Hartselle. Later they lived in Birmingham. After Mr. Hutchinson passed away, Mrs. Hutchinson spent her last years as a resident of the Terrace in Priceville. The family would like to thank the staff at the Terrace for their efforts in providing support, assistance and care for our mother. Mrs. Hutchinson was an accomplished pianist and organist and often played for her church, her family, and her own enjoyment. Mrs. Hutchinson, often described as a sweet person, was a patient and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a Christian woman and had a passion for teaching her faith to young children.
Services for Mrs. Hutchinson will be today, May 13, 2015, at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham (www.dignitymemorial.com). Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs.Hutchinson’s life.
