Mrs. Esther Elizabeth Haygood, age 71, a resident of Columbia, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021, at her residence.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Maury Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on July 23, 1949, in Summertown, Esther was the daughter of the late James Lee Frazier, Sr. and the late Nellie Mae Long Frazier. She attended Haylong High School in Mt. Pleasant and previously attended Southside Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. She and her siblings loved singing gospel music. A very artistic woman, Esther was excellent at drawing. Most of all, she loved getting together with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Haygood of Columbia, daughter, Joy (Lester) Long of Hampshire, sons, Ronald “Bubba” (Dana) Hurst, Jr. of Summertown, David Hurst of Columbia, sister, Nola (Raymond) Workman of Mt. Pleasant, five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Gay Hurst, and siblings, Mildred Allen, Fred Hargett, James Lee Frazier, Jr., Louise Riley, Shirley Hurst, E.J. Frazier, Robert Frazier, Johnny Frazier, and Gene Frazier.
Pallbearers will be Michael Collier, Mitchell Collier, Daniel Hurst, Raymond Workman, Donnie Attkisson, and Jeff Gray.
