Reverend Essie L. Allen
February 2, 1938 – June 8, 2024
On Wednesday, February 2nd, 1938, the late Chanless and Annie M. Pitts welcomed their delightful daughter, Essie Lee.
Some can imagine and others know that during those early years, things were very tough, times were hard. Oh, but little did the waiting world know, Essie was a fierce fighter. She faced many obstacles and challenges in her life, but she was an overcomer, who fought until the Lord told her that it was time to rest from her labor here on earth. That time came late in the evening on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at Crestwood Hospital.
Essie gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of David’s Temple MB Church for many years. She later united with Pine Gove MB Church, where she remained a faithful member, in good standing until her passing. It was at Pine Grove that she accepted her ministry calling. She stood boldly and preached the gospel even when women in ministry wasn’t popular. A faithful servant, preacher, teacher, and prayer warrior, until her last breath was taken!
She had a smile that would light up the darkest room. We suspect that she was smiling when she met and later married the late James Allen. This union of many years produced eight children, one of which preceded her in death, John Mark Allen. Her seven remaining children; Kenneth (Susan) Allen, Annie (Eamon Walsh) Allen, Jimmy (Betty) Allen, Janice (Marvin) Booker, Betty (Gary) Jones, Melvin (Sylvia) Allen and Lisa Glover.
Mom, we are so thankful that God gave us you. It’s because of your teaching, guidance and the examples that you set for us that all of your children know the Lord as our personal savior. You gave us all that you had, but truly, this was your greatest gift to us. We’ll love and treasure you forever.
Essie was one of ten siblings, seven would precede her in death: Helen, Ellen, Lula Mae, Christine, Mary, Roosevelt and Robert. Her remaining sisters: Geraldine, Jean and Patricia will remember their big sister and the many fond memories that they shared. She also leaves behind many grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, church family and neighbors who will forever treasure their precious memories of her.
Essie received a personal invitation to a sweet heavenly reunion, hosted by God. She immediately RSVP’d by checking the box “Yes, I’ll be there!” And so, she is!!!
