Ernestine Smithson, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 20 at NMMC- Tupelo. She was born August 1, 1934 in Hof bei Straden, Austria to the late Joseph and Agatha Sattler. Ernestine married James B. Smithson in Salzburg, Austria in 1955. She retired from Beverly Nursing Home in Amory. She and James also owned and operated J&E Enterprises in Amory for 12 years. Many from Amory will also remember Ernestine from her second store that she operated. Ernestine was an accomplished stained glass artist as well as making and collecting jewelry. She also loved to fish and listen to orchestral music. She was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Amory.
Ernestine is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Williams (Robert) and Helen Smithson; one son, James Joseph Smithson (Karen); sister, Agatha Drenth; grandchildren, Paul Tubb (Mindy), Allie Marie Lambert (Eric) and Ryan James Smithson; great grandchildren, Madelyn and Lilly Tubb, Noah Briggs, Cole and Ember Lambert.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ernestine is preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Allen Smithson; her siblings, Bridget, Erica, Rudolph, Joseph and Herrod.
A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
