Ernest C. Gaskins,92, of Margerum Road in Cherokee, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.
His family will receive visitors from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Morrison Funeral Home, 825 N. Main St., in Tuscumbia. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Scott Sealy, of First Presbyterian Church, Covington, Tenn., officiating. Burial will follow in Margerum Cemetery, Cherokee.
Mr. Gaskins was a U.S. Army veteran who served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. After his retirement from the Army, he worked on military contracts in Greenland and Alaska before returning to Alabama. He then resumed his interest in wood working, with a special emphasis in crafting furniture and harps.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Gaskins.
He is survived by his wife, Cora C. Gaskins, of Florence; his son, Kenneth Gaskins, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and his brother, Calvin Gaskins and wife, Carmela, of Los Lunas, N.M.
Pallbearers are Barry Holmes, Terry Lenz, William Lenz, Larry Turberville and Kenneth Wilson, and honorary pallbearer Johnny Hayes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pounders, Dr. Yordy, Dr. Quadrini and Dr. Mann.
