Emory “Pete” Cortais Staggs age 81, passed away on December 29, 2023. Visitation will be Sunday evening December 31, 2023 at Williams Funeral Home in Florence from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Williams Funeral Home chapel on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with David Gallaher officiating. The burial will be at Railroad cemetery in Iron City, Tennessee. The pallbearers will be Tyler Hensley, Mack Hensley, Chris King, Dakota Benefield, Cody Thigpen, and P.J. Aday. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny “Peanut” Hensley, Mack Hudson Hensley and nephews.
Mr. Staggs passed hours prior to the passing of his wife Martha of 60 years. He is proceeded in death by; Father Melvin B. Staggs, Mother Vergie Etta Overton Staggs, Brother Toney E. Staggs, and Brother Charles M. “Pugsy” Staggs.
Pete is survived by his Children; Dewayne Staggs (Wanda), Marcie Hensley (Terry), April Thigpen (Dell) and Toria Weems. Ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He played recreational league softball as #13 for 19 years.
The family would like to thank Dr.Kingsley and the staff at CCI, the staff at Preferred Hospice and Dr. Baron and Dr. Holden.
