Emmett Mac Wallace was born in Cullman, Alabama on January 4, 1939 to Daisy Runge. He was known to most simply as Mac. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elaine Wallace. His brother Danny Wallace and sister Irona Adamson. His children, Gary McKnight, Cheryl McKnight, Joel Wallace, Rich Wallace, Carmen White, Matthew Wallace, Jason Wallace, and his two stepdaughters, Chrysia Slinker and Kim Mangiapane. He was preceded in death by his mother Daisy Runge, sisters Bettie Thomas, Martha Goodwin, and Jo Goodwin.
Mac was a proud veteran of the US Army. The American flag flew in his yard every day. He would put his flag out in the morning at sunrise and take it down every evening before sunset.
Most of his working life was spent at General Motors in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he was a journeyman machine repairman. There weren’t many things that couldn’t fix and he was always proud to lend a hand to others when they needed help. After his retirement from General Motors, he enjoyed spending time in his garage working on his mowers and tinkering with various projects. He also loved maintaining his lawn and other things around the small farm he owned with his loving wife, Elaine Wallace.
He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and loved them very much. He often boasted about their accomplishments and how well they were doing. He moved back to Cullman later in life to spend time with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and son, Jason Wallace. He was always a prankster who loved to joke and tell stories. He never met a stranger and was one of the most quickwitted people around. He has an infectious smile that would light up a room. He prided himself on his hard work and being a man of his word.
He will be greatly missed by friends, family, and neighbors. Although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
Please join the family for a celebration of life at the Cullman VFW hall on Sunday, June 30 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm. Dress casually, he wouldn’t want everyone to get dressed up.
