Emma Jean Davis, age 86, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2024, surrounded by her family after a long illness. Jean was born in Troy, Alabama and was one of thirteen children. She attended Troy University. She married James B. Davis, Jr. in 1956, and they were the proud parents of three wonderful sons: Ben, Russ, and Chris. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Jean’s life was first and foremost dedicated to her Lord. She shared her love for Christ and her salvation with everyone she met. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed attending all of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church for 45 years and served as a preschool teacher for 40+ years.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ollie Bell Spurlock; her husband, James B. Davis, Jr.; and her son, Russell S. Davis. She is survived by her sons, James Benjamin Davis III (Susan) and John Christopher Davis (Laura), and daughter-in-law Angie Davis. She leaves seven grandchildren: Wes Davis (Emily), Mary Beth Davis, Grace Davis, Jack Davis, Will Davis, Kenley Davis, and Pajia Zipperer, and two great-grandchildren, Madeline Davis and Cameron Davis.

The family would like to thank her wonderful caregiver, Meloney Barnard, for the love, care, and friendship she gave to Jean.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful physicians that participated in her care: Dr. Austin Bourgeois, Dr. Ehab El-Bahesh, Dr. Christopher O’Halloran, and Dr. Gautam Reddy. The family is forever grateful for your love and care for Jean over the years.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30th at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
