Elwin Charles (Chuck) Stafford, age 84, of Tuscumbia, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at home surrounded by family. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, January 19, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Darrell Pace will be officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Mr. Stafford was born in Oneonta, Alabama, on August 28, 1931, to the late Roe Dolphus and Lexie Stafford. He served as Airman third class in the United States Air Force for four years. After his service, Mr. Stafford moved to the Shoals area and worked for Ford Motor Company before retiring. He later worked as a security guard at Helen Keller Hospital.
Mr. Stafford was the equipment manager for the Alabama Good Sam’s Camping Club for six years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, jeep riding, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Mr. Stafford was a member of the American Legion, and he attended Calvary Baptist Church, Tuscumbia.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stafford is also preceded in death by his brother, Quinton Stafford, and sisters, Inez Gilliland and Madgaleen Traffanstedt.
Survivors include his best friend and wife of forty-five years, Joyce Gasque Stafford; sons, Ronnie Stafford (Denise) of Tuscumbia, Wayne Stafford (Janie) of Muscle Shoals, and Greg Hopkins of Tuscumbia; daughters, Sharyn Blanton (Mike) of Red Bay, Suzanne Carroll (Ralph) of Sheffield, and Stacy Rackley (Todd) of Sheffield; seven grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
