Elsie Mary Mashburn Pennington, 83, of Tuscumbia, went to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013. She was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church of Tuscumbia, Ala. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. An avid gardener, she loved her flowers and working in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Parish Mashburn, father of four children, and Marvin W. Pennington; and grandson, Jonathan Guthrie.
She is survived by her sons, Dannie H. Mashburn (Cathy), of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Terry L. Mashburn (Beth), of Tuscumbia, Ala.; daughters, Patricia Mashburn Brooks (Bobby), of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Linda Mashburn Guthrie Smith (Randy), of Tuscumbia, Ala.; grandchildren, Christopher B. Brooks, Tina Mashburn Berryhill (Britt), Robert Bryan Guthrie (Pam) and Asya Mashburn Harrison (Adam); great-grandchildren, Blane Guthrie, Bella Guthrie and Emma Berryhill; brothers, James H. Simpson Jr., of Russellville, Ala., and Austin E. Simpson, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Faye Wallace Marston, of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and a special sister-in-law, Peggy Simpson Willis.
Pallbearers will be David Isom, Tommy Dixon and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Isom, Bob McMurtrey and Brother Ted Vafeas.
The family gives a special thanks to the full staff of Hospice Advantage, especially to nurses Tina, Julie and Denise, the full staff of Cypress Cove and to Chaplains Tony and Steve for the love and care given to our dear mother.
The family will receive friends at Colbert Memorial Chapel Friday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. The funeral will begin in the chapel at 4 p.m. with Brother Sammy Wallace, Brother Bob Carriveau and Brother Billy Thorn officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
