Elsie Mae Newell, 90 of Phil Campbell, Alabama passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at her residence. She has been a native of Franklin County all of her life. She was a member of Blue Springs Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her passions were cooking for her family, gardening and especially tending to her flower garden.
Visitation will be held June 13, 2023 at Akins Funeral Home of Russellville from 12:00 – 2:00 pm with the funeral service following in the Chapel at 2:00 pm with Bro. Zach Smith and Bro. John McCullar officiating. Interment will be at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Sue Newell Smith ( Bobby); grandchildren, Steven Smith (Tina), Bridget Lognion (Joedy), and Stacy Smith (Kristie); great grandchildren, Amanda Thomas (Jason), Kayla Jennings (Ben), and Zach Smith (Rosalyn), Holly Smith; great-great grandchildren, Jackson Hightower, Addie Remington and Anna Smith, with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Starland Newell; her parents Will and Eva Borden; Brothers, Leonard Hopkins, Hubert Hopkins, Roy Borden; sister, Mary Martin; great- great grandsons, Jayden Thomas and Colton Levi Jennings.
