Eloise Hester McCain – Obituary

eloiseVisitation for Eloise Hester McCain, 88, of Tuscumbia, Ala., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Gary Carter officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia will immediately follow the service.

Mrs. McCain died Thursday, May 30, at her home.

Mrs. McCain was born April 29, 1925, in Cherokee, Ala. She graduated from Cherokee Vocational High School in 1943. She had a 44-year career in Tuscumbia banking, with 31 years at First National Bank and 13 years at Bank Independent. Mrs. McCain was a life time member of The Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She attended Park Terrace Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sheffield and sang in the choir for many years.

Mrs. McCain was a loving wife, sibling to six brothers and sisters and a much loved aunt. She loved people and had a gift for bringing happiness to those around her with her ever present smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Robert and Emmie James Hester; and by her siblings, Birdie Irene Hester, Mabel Hester Moore, Luther Raymond Hester, Walter Thurman Hester and Jerrel Dean Hester.

Mrs. McCain is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Donald McCain; and one sister, Betty Hester Patterson, of Athens, Ala. She is also survived by six nephews, Dwight Hester, of Northport, Ala., Robert Thomas Porter, of Brentwood, Tenn., Philip McCain, of Winchester, Tenn., Ricke Hester, of Jefferson City, Tenn., Jed Hester, of Alcoa, Tenn., Robert Wayne McCain, of Scottsboro, Ala.; seven nieces, Melanie Bodiford, of Athens, Ala., Kristie LaHue, of Birmingham, Ala., Norma Jean Putnam, of North Brook, Ill., Judy Sizemore, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Joan Mason, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Tessa Swineheart, of Hendersonville, Tenn, and Melinda Burnette, of Goodlettsville, Tenn; several grand-nephews and grand-nieces; and one sister-in-law, Faye Hester, of Sheffield, Ala.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Hester, Josh Sellers, Joe Bodiford, Robert Wayne McCain, William James and Ben Terrell.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the following people for their care and kindness during Mrs. McCain’s extended illness: Dr. Laurence Carmichael, Dr. Joseph Cuccia, very devoted neighbors, church friends and special care givers, Sue Howard and Louise Smallwood.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. McCain’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
