Elmon Powell Thomas of Tupelo, MS passed away peacefully on 12/31/2022 at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his loved ones at his passing.
Elmon was born in Cascilla, MS on August 23, 1928. He graduated from Charleston High School and would further his education by pursuing a higher degree at MDCC, Delta State University where he received his Bachelors and on to the University of Mississippi to achieve his Masters.
His Military career was spent as a pilot in the army as an instrument instructor. He would achieve Captain at his tenure in the army. He would later return to Mississippi and serve the National Guard of Tupelo, MS until his honorable discharge.
He would spend most of his career in Hollandale, MS as a farmer and small business owner until his retirement.
His life outside of work revolved around his family. He married his wife (Bonnie) of 68 years on June 11, 1954. His retirement years were spent traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Elmon is preceded in death by his parents Ali and Ethel Thomas, Sister Marinee Pennington, Brothers Allie Jr. Thomas & Edwin P. Thomas.
He is Survived by his wife Bonnie Thomas of Tupelo, Daughter Theresa May (Phillip) of Pontotoc, MS; a brother Edward L. Thomas (Carol) of Maben, MS; 2 grandchildren Elmon Hunt (BreAnn)of Leland, MS; Lee Hunt (Jeri Ann)of Greenville, MS; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Traceway Retirement Community Manor Walker Room, 2800 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38801.
In Lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be made to Saint Christopher Catholic Church, 431 Pineridge Drive, Pontotoc, MS; or Sanctuary Hospice House 5159 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38801.
