Elmo June Kerr – Obituary

Funeral services for Elmo June Kerr, 81, of Hartselle will be Friday, November 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm followed by funeral services, both in the church sanctuary.

Mr. Kerr, who died Tuesday, November 26 at his residence, was born April 23,
1932 in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Gadsden, Alabama, where he met his beloved wife of 62 years Euverla “Byrd” Kerr. The family moved to Hartselle in 1962. Mr. Kerr was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Hartselle for 51 years.

Mr. Kerr is a U. S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Betelgeuse during the Korean War. He retired from the U. S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in 1991. Mr. Kerr was proud to have served on the Hartselle City School Board during the transition from county to city schools in Hartselle. He was an avid Hartselle Tiger fan and the oldest member of the field painting crew when his grandson Russell played football at Hartselle. Elmo Kerr was beloved by family and friends and well known for his playful sense of humor and genuine concern and care for others.

Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife Byrd Kerr, daughter Carol Powell (Randy) of Hartselle, son Steve Kerr (Jean) of Atlanta, and grandsons Gaines Kerr and Russell Powell. He was lovingly cared for during his last months by caregivers and dear friends Susie and Shirley Rodgers.

Pallbearers will be Gaines Kerr, Russell Powell, Dwain Wallace, Jerry Powell, Sam Gugliotta, and Bill King.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Elmo Kerr to the Good Samaritan Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 210 Hickory Street SE, Hartselle, AL 35640.
