Elmer “Buddy” Alverson

Rev. Elmer “Buddy” Alverson of New Market went to be with the Lord on Sunday. He was 81. Buddy had grown up in the Walnut Grove community, attended Walnut Grove School, and served in the United States Army.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Sue Slayton Alverson; His son, Randy Lee Alverson; His granddaughter, Haley Waldon, and three-great-grandchildren, Lillie, Kallah, & Lincoln Waldon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben & Lona Alverson and by nine siblings.

Elmer had served as a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister since 1971 and was a member of the Robert Donnell Presbytery. During his career, he had served seven churches on a full-time basis, served on various boards, and was a chaplain at several hospitals.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5pm until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2pm at Concord Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ray Gardner officiating. Burial will follow the service and will be in Concord Cemetery.
