Ellen J. Smith, 66, of Hazel Green, went to be with the Lord peacefully while at home on Tuesday after battling Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years.  She was born in the Guntersville dam community in Marshall County, Alabama and was an Accounts Payable Clerk at Huntsville Hospital and at Jacob’s Engineering.

Ellen was a person of sincere and meaningful faith in Christ.  She was raised in the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Marshall County and in recent years she was part of the First Baptist Church of Meridianville.    She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband, Bill, since they married in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her son, Wesley Black;  Her sisters, Barbara Birchfield and Rhonda Rozell;  Her brothers, Ray Parker and Michael Parker;

Surviving family members include her husband,  William “Bill” Smith;  Her son and daughter-in-law, Chris & Rachel Smith; Her granddaughter, Emilee Smith;  Her sister and brother-in-law, Sandy & Gerald Green.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4pm until 6pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.

Ellen will be forever remembered for her loving heart, always being willing to give to help others, and for her beautiful smile that brightened the lives of those who knew her.
