ellaElla Shahlini Bulls Clemons was born on Dec. 12, 1957, in New Delhi, India. She was the daughter of the late Mr. John T. Bulls Jr. and the late Mrs. James Ella Turnley Bulls. As a young adult, Ms. Clemons professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ms. Clemons graduated from Coffee High School in 1974. She earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Alabama, the first in office administration with a minor in business administration in 1978, and the second in social work, with a minor in sociology in 1993. She began her career at Alabama A&M University in 1983 as a secretary in the Department of Art and Art Education. She later changed career paths due to her love of helping others and wanting to make a difference in others lives. Ms. Clemons served as a social worker in the Adult Services unit with the Lauderdale County Department of Human Resources. Ms. Clemons was devoted to her family and as such she served selflessly as a full-time caregiver to both her parents and late husband after her service as a social worker.
Ms. Clemons was full of love and compassion. Her smile and laughter always filled the room. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, reading, caring for her beloved cats, and taking trips to Tunica, Mississippi. She was a source of inspiration, strength, courage, and determination to those around her. On Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, Ms. Ella Shahlini Bulls Clemons peacefully departed her earthly life.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Marcel (Kristen) Burney, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two daughters, Andrea Clemons, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Michelle Clemons, of Peachtree City, Georgia; a brother, Michael (Sharon) Bulls, of Baltimore, Maryland; four grandchildren, Winter Winfree, Xavier Winfree, Zaiden Burney, and Yasha Burney, all of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.; a loving companion, Thomas Pearson, of Florence, Alabama; and a host of other family members and friends.
It was once said that the true measure of a person is not through what they achieve for themselves but through their effect on the lives of others. If this is the way we measure the life of Ella Shahlini, then she was truly a remarkable person.
