Elizabeth “Liz” Townsend, 89 of Huntsville, passed peacefully on February 4, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

She is survived by her son, Michael Townsend (Cindy); daughter, Jane Bush (Randy); grandchildren, Starr Boyd, Heather Boone, Amelia Coyle, Jacob Thomas, William Thomas; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Liz was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Coyle and grandson Hunter Townsend.

She moved to Huntsville in 1962 to begin her career with NASA in personnel, first in a motel converted to the offices while construction of the 4200 Complex at Marshall Space Flight Center was completed. She performed various duties at NASA, personnel, secretary for Management Operations Office, and oversaw the conference rooms in 4200 until she retired in 1989.

She loved to entertain, always the life of the party, including a founding member of Finnegans Pub St.Patrick’s Day Parade. Her love of all animals was immeasurable, and she was a prolific reader. She will be dearly missed by all.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Berryhill Funeral Home assisted the family.
