elizabethElizabeth Josephine Hyde King, age 95 of Sheffield. On the 15th of September, 2013, the gates of Heaven opened and welcomed an angel when Josephine Hyde King passed from this earth. She was a native of Nauvoo, AL (Walker County) and felt this place was next to heaven.

Mrs. Josephine was a very talented person and didn’t go a day without producing something. Ceramics, crochet and genealogy were her favorites. After working on the Hyde Family Book for several years, she had it printed. One of her passions was making needlepoint crosses and giving them to anyone she met. She was also known as the “Birthday Lady”, each month she would carry cards (over one hundred) to the radio station that gave away birthday cakes and many of hers won. She did this for church members, friends, family and neighbors. Her family was so important to her and she was love by all.

She is survived by her son, Earle King (Jean) of Mobile; daughters, Peggy Bishop (Frank) of Sheffield, Maeve Brackin of Huntsville; sister, Wanda Barnard (HV) of Missouri and sister-in-law, Margaret Dobbs of Athens; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joe Carter (Ginger) and their son, Hiram, the Bishops Bill (Gini), Brice (Carol), Barry (Jennifer), Lindsey, Leah (Brad), Mackenzie, Brooke, Will, Charlie Ann, Morgan, Tyler, Blair and Lee-Taylor; the Kings, Eddie (Lisa), Alan (Tina), Kirsten Sargent (Robert), Steve (Julie), Sid, Stu, Adam, Tyler, Anna Catherine, Tiana, Joshua, Samuel and Josie Kate; the Brackins, Jessica, Breanna and Brelan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 745 Thompson, Street, Florence, AL 35630 or to the Lottie Moon Offering @ York Terrace Baptist Church, 1401 30th Street, Sheffield, AL 35660.
