Elizabeth Emma Gean Hill McElyeaElizabeth Emma Gean Hill McElyea, 85 of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, November 30th, 2021, at her residence. Mrs. McElyea was born on May 1st, 1936, to Joseph Berryman Hill, Sr., and Alice Elizabeth Wilson Hill.

Mrs. McElyea is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard G. McElyea; son Richard Mark (Denita) McElyea; granddaughter Marie Elizabeth McElyea of Mobile; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents; sister Rosie Mae Hill Kerr; brothers Frances Richard Hill and Joseph Berryman Hill, Jr.

Funeral services for Mrs. McElyea will be on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021, at 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Bill Irby officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dement Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Kerr, Andy Kerr, Kenny Wright, Dale McElyea, Ian Kerr, and Bob Barton. Honorary pallbearers will be Brent Kerr, Grant Kerr, Seth Kerr, Carson Kerr, and Nicholas Wright.

Mrs. McElyea was a member of Northside Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher for 10 years. She was a cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor, and an author of 2 books: The Hill Adventure and Emma’s Poems. She loved to travel so much that she was known as “Emma Go McElyea!”
