Betty was born in Athens, Alabama on November 22, 1944, to William P. Newby and Sarah Hughes Newby.
Betty met Lloyd in 1977 while working at E.M.S in Norcross. Their first date wasn’t until a year later. She came over to help Lloyd decorate his house in 1979, and she never left. They married in 2009 on the Green in Mountain Park in the shadow of a Hot Air Balloon. Though they had no children of their own, Betty maintained a strong bond with her three stepdaughters from her previous marriage. They forever referred to her as “Momma Betty”.
Betty worked in the electronics industry for more than 32 years. While working at E.M.S., Betty achieved and held a NASA Soldering Certification. She worked on parts for multiple satellite systems, including the 1st RCA satellite to broadcast HBO, and the Telemetry Routing Switch on the Hubble Space Telescope. Betty was also quite the seamstress, having learned to sew at age 4 from her grandmother. She made all her clothes from patterns she created. Betty also loved the art of Blacksmithing, and in 1991she decided to add it as a second hobby. She supported the local Atlanta Blacksmith guild for more than 30 years.
Betty is preceded in death by infant son, Bob, her parents, William. P. Newby and Sarah Hughes Newby, brother William M. Newby, sister Katherine Newby, stepdaughter Roxy Campbell. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Hendricks, her sister Sarah Jane Newby, brothers James Newby and Thomas Newby, nephews Todd Newby, Steven Newby, TJ Newby, Virgil Paul Burnette, J.D. Burnette, Bill Newby, niece Beth Bolden and stepdaughters RaneeLee Saine and Ronda Saine-Roberts, their precious children, grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on August 3, 2024, 5 pm -7 pm at Northside Chapel in Roswell, GA. Betty will be buried in the Newby family plot in Athens, Alabama. August 7 visitation at McConnell Funeral Home from 11:00-12:45 with a
1:00 Graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery with Kenny Baskins officiating.
