Elizabeth Ann Clayton Mitchell, 85, of Florence, passed away April 4, 2023. For 25 years, “Mrs. Mitchell” worked at Forest Hills School. She spent many years teaching in the classroom and finished her career in the library. She was known for her creative methods of teaching including Multiplication Football, International Tasting Day and the May Pole. After her retirement, she volunteered in the library at The First United Methodist Church in Florence and the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library. She loved gardening, tennis and reading books. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Mitchell (Florence, AL), her son, Jeff Mitchell and his wife Karen Smith Mitchell (Scottsboro, AL), her daughter, Jill Mitchell Schlosser and her husband Andrew Schlosser (Souderton, PA), one brother, David Clayton (Nellysford, VA) and her grandchildren, Brandon Mitchell (Kaitlyn) (Chattanooga, TN), Josh Mitchell (Morgan) (Madison, AL), Courtney Schlosser (Souderton, PA) and Ashley Schlosser (Souderton, PA). The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staff at SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice and private duty caregivers: Jeannie, Nora, Brit, Jodie, Veronica and Raveen for their loving care during her extended illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice and the Alzheimers Association.
