Elfriede Katherine Waldrup, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Waldrup, son Edward Arnold (Eddie), daughter in law Charlotte Waldrup and granddaughter Stephanie Waldrup. Elfriede leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and resilience that will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Born in Kassel Germany, Elfriede met Edward during his military service assignment time and then immigrated to the United States, beginning a life together rooted in love, hard work, and commitment. For 30 years, Elfriede worked as a bookkeeper at Redstone Arsenal, where her dedication and integrity were respected by all who worked with her.
Elfriede is survived by four of her children: Roy, Susan (Thom), Jerry (Martha), John (Renee), Christine Waldrup who were the light of her life. She is also deeply loved by her eight grandchildren: Heather Thomas (David), Brian Waldrup, Taylor Owen, Tiffany Colquett (Tony), Sarah Ethridge(Chris), Jeri Ann Hadley (Jacob), Alicia Bennett (Zach) , Landon Waldrup as well as her 14 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and she adored each one with all her heart.
In addition to her family, Elfriede had a deep love for gardening. She found peace and joy in tending to her plants, nurturing them to grow just as she nurtured her family with love, care, and patience. Her garden was a reflection of her own nurturing spirit—beautiful, vibrant, and full of life.
In her final days, Elfriede was lovingly cared for by her family, the dedicated staff of Home Instead and Huntsville Hospital Hospice, who provided her with comfort and compassionate care. The family is deeply grateful for their exceptional care and support.
A woman of strong faith, Elfriede was a member of Bicentennial Chapel where she found strength and solace throughout her life. Her unwavering faith, kindness, and generosity shaped her family and community, and her legacy of love will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Huntsville Hospital Hospice.
Rest in peace, Elfriede. Your legacy of love and faith will never be forgotten.
You may visit with the family on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, AL 35811. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12:00pm in Valhalla’s Celebration Chapel. Elfriede will be laid to rest at Valhalla Memory Gardens immediately following services.
