Eleanor Hakanson King went home to be with the Lord, her savior and constant companion, on Monday, March 31, 2025.
Eleanor was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Claude and Ora Mae Hakanson, but spent most of her childhood in Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Education and taught at Whitesburg Elementary, Davis Hills Middle School, and Challenger Middle School.
Eleanor was the devoted wife to Wendell L. King for 56 years, a Godly mother, an adoring Nana, and a friend to all. Eleanor let her light shine wherever she went, and she lived to serve her family and others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Wendell King. Eleanor is survived by four children, Tony King, Wendy Carriger (Brant), Claudia Styles (Bryan), and Mary Duncan (Marc); eight grandchildren, Sydney Thornhill (Wes), Carson Styles (Shelby), Catie Lee (Conrad), Presley Compton (Cole), Sabrina Brophy (Brooks), Walker Styles, Colby Duncan, and Carter Duncan; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntsville Pregnancy Resource Center (HPRC) or your local church. But the best way to honor Eleanor would be to tell others about Jesus and show great love to others. Her favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:28 (NLT) – And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
