Eleanor Coker Flippen, 75, entered into Eternity Tuesday. She gave her heart to her Lord and Savior at the age of eight and looked forward to her eternal destination, Heaven.

She was born in Birmingham, AL to Ralph and Rebecca Coker. Eleanor was a graduate of Samford University, 1966, with a degree in Home Economics Education, and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was employed by Auburn University Cooperative Extension Service as a Home Agent in Russellville/Franklin Co., AL, upon graduation from Samford. There she met her future husband, Sam Flippen, whom she married in 1969. He preceded her to heaven in 2015. Eleanor completed her Master’s Degree at the University of Alabama and was an avid ROLL TIDE fan. She taught Home Economics, now known as Family and Consumer Education for 37 years in Florence City Schools. She had a love for teenagers and cherished her experiences and interactions with high school students. Over the years she planned and directed many weddings throughout the Shoals area. She and Sam were members of Highland Baptist, Florence for over 30 years. After moving to Huntsville she and Sam became members of Whitesburg Baptist. Sam and Eleanor moved to Huntsville, Al in 2008 after the birth of their first grandchild. Spending time with her grandchildren was the greatest joy in her final years. Her grandchildren affectionately called her Elly.

Survivors include children, Suzanne Flippen Clowers (Chris) of Huntsville, and Mark Wheeler Flippen (Julie) of Lakewood, CO; grandsons, Fisher and Hayes Clowers; granddaughters, Lucy and Layla Flippen; sister, Jane Walton (Phil), of Birmingham, (who called her Cookie all her life!); brothers-in-law and sisters- in- law; Daisy Kinard, of Houston, Joe Flippen, of Florence, Mary Flippen of Florence; Andi and Murphree Flippen, of Florence, and Lou and Joe Laster of Tennessee; and numerous Flippen and Walton nieces and nephews.
