Eldon Ray Curtis – Obituary

EldonEldon Ray Curtis, 85 of Double Springs passed away on September 28, 2013 surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 27, 1928 in Double Springs. Mr. Curtis graduated from Winston County High School in 1947 and then served his country in the United States Army National Guard for 25 years, retiring as the Commander of his unit in Double Springs. He started a propane gas company and worked in the industry for 25 years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for 38 years, where he served for 20 years as the Church Clerk. In addition he served on the Burdick West Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and the Winston County School Board. He was a member of the American Legion Post 184 for over 50 years. Mr. Curtis enjoyed working on his farm, spending time with his family and attending Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 2-4pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where services will be held at 4pm. Brother Wayne Williams and Brother Jeffery Wiggins will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorene Curtis; daughter, Cathy Curtis Miller and her husband Curt; and one grandson, Christofer Curtis Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Rosie Lee Curtis; sisters, Geraldine Raley and Jacqulyn Barnett; and brothers, Arnold and Travis Curtis.

Donations may be made in his name to the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
