Elbert Morris was born on March 10, 1940 to the late
Louis and Eliza Jane Parks Morris Sr. He departed this life
on July 27, 2022 at the North Mississippi Medical Center,
Tupelo, MS. He was 82 years old.
At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and
joined the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of
Verona, MS. There he served as a Deacon, Usher, and a Van
Driver for the Church.
He has been married to Syble Medcalf Morris for over 61
years. They have lived in the Shannon area for well over 55
plus years. Elbert was a well-known and respected Truck
Driver. He has hauled goods from one end of the country to
another and more than likely, knew every road atlas there
was when he actively drove trucks. He made many friends
during his travels. He was known for his kindness and warm
smile, that earned him the nickname, “Smiley”.
His memories will forever be cherished in the hearts and
minds of his loving and dutiful wife, Syble Medcalf Morris;
his children: Rev. Rodney Cleveland, his mother, Betty
Cleveland (Deceased),Tomiko Williams, Elbert Williams, and
Reginald Williams (Chaka), their mother, Ella Kate
Williams; six grandchildren: Travellius Williams, Trameon
Williams, Brianca Williams, Reginald Williams, Rylie
Williams and Emery Williams; his sister, Elizabeth Harris of
Verona, MS; his brother, Willie Frank Morris of Greenwood,
MS; his sister-in-laws, Inez Ambrose, Joan White and Lilly
Mae Morris of Verona, MS, Mary Ann Terrell of Tupelo,
MS, Margaret Owens of Memphis, TN; one brother-in-law,
Andrew Medcalf of Verona, MS; a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Elbert was preceded in death by his daughter, Panzy
Williams; father, Louis Morris Sr.; mother, Eliza Parks
Morris; his sisters, Vera Morris and Jo Anna Morris Riley;
brothers: Louis Morris Jr. and James Morris Sr.
